Wilhelm Tell (William Tell)
by Friedrich Schiller

Wilhelm Tell (William Tell) tells the story of the legendary Swiss marksman William Tell and also the Swiss struggle for independence in the early 14th century from the Habsburg family which ascended to power.

Wilhelm Tell is the most widely read play outside of Germany and the last of his completed dramas and is considered by many to represent the height of Schiller's artistic achievement. This is the last completed drama of the short-lived famous writer. It was published in 1804. The play has been translated into many other languages.
