Le Tour du Monde en 80 Jours (Around the World in 80 Days) - Vol 2 (of 2)
by Jules Verne

Le tour du Monde en Quatre-Vingts Jours (Around The World In Eighty Days) is an adventure novel by the French writer Jules Verne, first published in 1873.

In the story, Phileas Fogg, an English gentleman who resides in London and his newly employed French valet Passepartout, attempt to circumnavigate the world in 80 days based on a wager. The entire novel is a clever mix between travelogue (classic Jules Verne) and scientific data.

This extraordinary journey is made possible by the transportation revolution that marked the nineteenth century and the beginning of the industrial revolution. The emergence of new modes of transport (trains, steam boats) and the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869 which shortened the distance, are examples that made the time required for travel plausible.

Le tour du Monde en Quatre-Vingts Jours is one of Jules Verne's most acclaimed works.
